This week I’ve been visiting New York City. While I did spend s
ome time taking in the sights….I mean, who could blame me….Times Square BTW is crazy cool and I did make my family all wait in line to have dessert at Serendipity 3. My 16 year old inner teen did a squeal of joy and I promised my daughter that we’d watch Serendipity when we got home for some Mother/Daughter bonding time!
Ah, but back to the point, the reasoning for my trip to NYC was really to go to training. When you think about ‘Smart Home’ technology, the biggest difference between a Technology Designer such as myself and a blue shirt employee from a particular big box store is that I’m not in the business of just selling you boxes of products. Meeting and working with a Technology Designer ensures that you will be working with someone who is going to work with you to design a system for your home. A large part of knowing how to best create a personalized system for you is making sure that we have the proper education on what products are available and the most efficient and user friendly way to run your system.
To that end, I have found my way to New York for the next 3 days to visit the headquarters of Universal Remote Control (URC) for a training on their control system named Total Control. This is a 3 day intense training that will allow me to program your Total Control system for you and will allow me to set up some unique features and customization for you. A control system really allows us to take any of your low voltage technology in your home or business and allow them to play together. This means that we can get rid of the coffee table of your remotes…no longer do you need to pick up a remote for the television, then one for the cable box, then one for your audio video receiver (AVR), etc. We can now take all of these items and make them work together through one single remote or even an app on your phone.
“They’ve been able to do this for years!” I can hear you saying….and you’d be right…Universal Remote Control has been around for over 25 years, but this NEW award winning control system from them is the culmination of everything they have learned over those years on steroids! This way we can not only pair all of your traditional entertainment devices from multiple remotes to one, we can now add in LOTS of additional devices that will all work together in one platform. Things like your music, cameras, door locks, security system and so much more! URC also has multiple options for your control based on what your preference is. They have the traditional handheld remotes, table top controllers, in-wall controllers and you can even use any of your smart devices like your smart phone or tablet. So no matter your personal preference…URC has a solution for you and you can even mix and match these options throughout your home!
Some of the reasons that we are excited to partner with URC for your smart home technology are their experience, their dependability, their service and their commitment to us the technology designers and you the end user client. Let’s take a quick look at each of these reasons a moment….
- Experience. Universal Remote Control has been in
business since 1990. That means that they have over 25 years experience working with remotes and control systems. They have sold over 100 million remotes in the last 10 years alone…they might know a thing or two about this stuff!
- Dependability. Universal Remote Control has won numerous awards
for their innovation in products, especially their NEW Total Control 2.0 control platform, their training and so much more. (To see a full list, click HERE.) They also have a 2 year warranty on their products although I haven’t hardly ever had any issues with their products. Any time I have, they have been super quick to respond and get it taken care of.
- Service. Universal Remote Control houses their entire call center as well as their engineers right here in the US. In a technology
focused industry this is FAR more rare than what you might think. This excellence in service means that we are able to assist you far quicker with much more efficiency than many of our competitors.
- Commitment. Universal Remote Control continues to show their commitment to both us, the technology designer, but to you the client as well. They are committed to continuing to innovate their products and to work on adding more items that
they integrate with. They currently work with over 4,200 Z-Wave devices and with their recent roll out of Total Control 2.0 they have shown us their commitment to allowing us the options of personalizing our systems with unique graphics and so many more upgrades including larger wall monitors and table top controller options.
